Gerald A. Hoeck collection, 1942-1946.

The collection contains the papers of Gerald A. Hoeck, who graduated from the US Navy Japanese Language School, located at the University of Colorado in Boulder from 1942-1946. The collection contains a number of personal accounts of prisoners of war and the interrogation reports that resulted from the interviews. A map is included in the collection of the enemy units and uncaptured enemy positions on Iwo Jima as well as copies of photographs from Iwo Jima. There is also an envelope prisoners of war were required to wear telling the captors their information.

Obtained a Degree in Journalism from the University of Washington. Gerald A. Hoeck graduated from the Japanese Language School in June 1943. A few graduates opted to go into the Marines, including Hoeck. They were sent to a small place called Green’s Farm outside of Camp Elliott, San Diego.
